An inmate facing a robbery charge got away from sheriff’s deputies at Pomona Municipal Court on Monday, but was found hiding in a clothes dryer in a nearby home about 30 minutes later, Pomona police said.

Carlos Arias, 19, was bitten by a search dog and arrested in a home in the 400 block of West 8th Street, said Lt. Charlie Watts. He was expected to be booked on escape and burglary charges.

Arias was being put into a Sheriff’s Department van about 6 p.m. when he got away, Watts said. Police and sheriff’s deputies had surrounded the area when a resident reported that someone was in his home.

The home was evacuated, and a dog was sent in, Watts said. Arias was found in the dryer and was bitten by the dog when he refused orders to get out, Watts said.
