An elevated light-rail system in Fullerton is best suited for the city destined to be the first stop on the future 27-mile CenterLine, county transportation officials said Monday.

Comments from Fullerton residents and city officials after the September release of the draft environmental impact report helped influence the staff’s recommendation, said Dave Simpson, spokesman for the Orange County Transportation Authority.

The staff presented their recommendation to the authority board in an effort to help it make its Dec. 13 decision on the alignments and funding of the $1.5-billion CenterLine project. The board will hold a public hearing in Santa Ana Nov. 22 on the issue.
