Eight of the 16 Ventura County beaches closed earlier this week because of bacterial contamination were reopened Thursday when new sampling indicated the water quality at the sites met state minimum standards, officials said.

The reopened beaches are McGrath State Beach, Mandalay County Park, Oxnard Shores, Oxnard State Beach, Hollywood Beach, Ormond Beach, County Line Beach and Staircase Beach.

The beaches that continued to post no-swim warnings Thursday were Rincon Beach, Faria County Park, San Buenaventura Beach, Peninsula Beach, South Jetty, Surfers Knoll, Hobie Beach and Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park.

Those beaches will remain closed until environmental health officials have determined the water meets state standards for quality.
