LA HABRA
La Habra’s methamphetamine labs may be short-lived, thanks to a Senate measure approving stiffer penalties for manufacturers of the drug.
The measure passed Wednesday will amend federal sentencing guidelines by increasing the number of years in prison per gram confiscated from a ratio of 1 to 100 to 1 to 10.
The majority of drug-related arrests in La Habra are connected to methamphetamine, according to Sgt. Phil Stufflebean.
“For the past three to four years, methamphetamine appears on the increase and appears to be the most popular drug,” Stufflebean said.
