In an intersectional showdown pitting the state’s leading passer against the state’s leading rusher, the quarterback’s team came out ahead.

David Koral of Palisades High set a state record and tied a national mark for touchdown passes in a game, throwing 10 in a 69-44 victory over Kilpatrick on Friday at Palisades.

Koral completed 23 of 29 passes for 544 yards, increasing his regular-season totals to 3,519 yards and 46 touchdowns.

Koral tied the national record set in 1990 by Clifton Davis III of Sardis North Panola (Miss.).

Koral eclipsed the state record of nine touchdown passes in a game set by Robert De La Cruz of Cathedral last year against St. Genevieve.

Jermaine Marshall, the state’s leading rusher, led Kilpatrick (6-4) with 236 yards and four touchdowns in 29 carries.

Palisades used nine- and 10-man fronts in an attempt to stop Marshall, who has rushed for 2,766 yards and 45 touchdowns.

Palisades (8-2) did not attempt a running play in the game. Geoff McArthur had 12 catches for 271 yards and five touchdowns.
