Fairmont completed its first football season with a 48-0 loss to host Riverside Sherman Indian Friday night.

The Huskies, who finished 2-7, were held to 165 yards in becoming the Braves’ sixth shutout victim this season. Evan Shirley and Richard Guerrero combined for 150 yards rushing, four touchdowns and three two-point conversions.

Fairmont fielded just 22 players, and Coach Tom Caffrey is already looking ahead to bigger and better things next year.

“We will have 18 players returning next season,” he said. “I’m proud of the way our team played this first year. They played hard in every game, but we also need to get more players on the roster.”

Things started badly for the Huskies when Sherman Indian (7-1-1) took the opening kickoff and scored six plays later on Julian Moses’ 34-yard touchdown pass to Shirley.

Then on Fairmont’s first play from scrimmage, Moses intercepted a pass by Matt Gomez and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown.

Guerrero scored on runs of four and eight yards in the second quarter to build the Braves’ lead to 32-0.

The Huskies had their best chance to score on their final possession of the first half, but a Gomez pass was picked off by Nick Myron.
