Broken Main Leaves 150 Without Gas
About 150 residents were without gas service most of Tuesday after construction workers, replacing a water line on Spring Street, accidentally pierced a gas main.
A backhoe digging up dirt for the new water line struck the 2-inch main in the 800 block of Spring Street about 11 a.m.
After workers smelled fumes, they notified the Southern California Gas Co., which temporarily shut down service to nearby residents. Officials said they expected to restore service Tuesday night.
Residents apparently took the loss of heat and hot water in stride. Company officials reported receiving only 30 customer complaints.
