Residents may have defeated a $95 parcel tax to boost the Irvine Unified School District’s ailing finances, but some of those who voted “yes” now seem ready to open their personal checkbooks.

“We have had a lot of people come to us and say, ‘Hey, I still want to give my money,’ ” said Greg Bradbard, executive director of the Irvine Public Schools Foundation.

A few thousand dollars already have been donated since Measure B was narrowly defeated in the Nov. 2 election, he said.

The nonprofit foundation has launched a new fund-raising drive to help the school district deal with a more than $4-million budget deficit.
