Anaheim Church Gets Renovation Underway
Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church broke ground Friday on construction of a new sanctuary, social hall, classrooms and bell tower at 995 North West St. in Anaheim. The project, scheduled to be complete by May 2001, is expected to cost $4 million.
The church was founded in 1969 by the Rev. Msgr. Eugene Chromoga, dean of the Western Deanery of the Diocese of Parma, of the Byzantine Ruthenian Rite.
After World War II, many Byzantine Catholics migrated to the Western coastal states. Like Roman Catholics, they are subject to the Vatican’s authority, although they have their own church laws, liturgies and customs.
