Store Fire Causes $750,000 in Damage
A fire in an Oxnard electronics store early Friday caused $750,000 in damage, according to Oxnard fire officials.
The fire started about 1:30 a.m. in the attic of Marvac Electronics, a large, one-story outlet in a strip mall on South A Street, Oxnard Battalion Chief Clarence Slayton said.
“It looks like something mechanical or electrical went wrong,” Slayton said. The fire did not appear to be started by an arsonist, fire officials said.
The fire caused about $500,000 in damage to the structure, while the loss of the contents was estimated at about $250,000.
The roofs of two other stores --Custom TV and Satellite, and Dina Connection International, an auto parts store--were damaged during the blaze.
“My place looked pretty trashed because they ripped the ceiling out and there was water and smoke damage,” said Jerry Stevens, owner of Custom TV and Satellite. “By the time I got there they had put out the fire and it was mostly dark.”
The investigation is continuing.
