In three seasons at Long Beach State, Wayne Morgan has struggled to a 36-48 record. However, this is his most experienced and talented group, led by guard Ramel Lloyd, who averaged 18 points last season. All five starters and the top eight scorers from last season’s 13-15 team return. In exhibitions, Pepperdine appears to have adjusted well to the up-tempo style introduced by first-year Coach Jan Van Breda Kolff, formerly of Vanderbilt. Forwards Kelvin Gibbs and Tommie Prince provide experience and leadership for the Waves, 19-13 last season.
