Needy to Be Served Thanksgiving Meal

Needy families in the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley area have been invited to a free meal and some fun on Thanksgiving Day.

The Thanksgiving dinner, to be held at the Guadalupe Community Center at 21600 Hart St. in Canoga Park, will begin about 11 a.m. and continue until early afternoon, organizers said.

“There’ll be turkey, gravy and the works, cranberry sauce and all kinds of desserts,” said Ann Kinzle, immediate past president of LAPD’s West Valley Police Activity League Supporters (PALS), sponsor of the annual event that dates back more than 15 years.

Along with food for everyone, face-painting and arts and crafts for children will be offered.

“It’s really beneficial for the community,” said Capt. Cayler Lee Carter Jr., area commander of the Police Department’s West Valley Division. “It’s a way for our officers and PALS to give back to the community for all its support.”

PALS members, police and volunteers from the community will help cook and serve the meal, Carter said.

The annual event attracts hundreds of people every year, mostly from the Canoga Park area, Kinzle said.
