Doheny State Beach, which was shut down last Monday by a local sewage spill, will remain closed at least until Tuesday because of continuing high bacteria levels.

Orange County Health Care Agency spokeswoman Monica Mazur said water samples taken late last week showed several violations of state bacteria standards, which require that beaches test clean for three consecutive days before they can be reopened.

The state beach, which has been closed twice in the last two months by sewage spills, is reeling from a Nov. 14 power outage that caused a Santa Margarita Water District pump station to overflow, sending 3,600 gallons of untreated waste water into Oso Creek.
