The Orange County Health Care Agency reopened two local beaches Sunday after testing revealed that the effects of two sewage spills Nov. 14 have washed away.

Swimming still is not recommended at Doheny State Beach but no longer is prohibited, said Monica Mazur, a spokeswoman for the agency.

All swimming restrictions have been lifted at the beach near the mouth of Salt Creek, she said.

Doheny State Beach, which was closed once in October and has had continual restrictions since the end of summer, was shut down last week when a power outage caused a Santa Margarita Water District pump station to overflow, sending nearly 3,600 gallons of untreated waste water into nearby Oso Creek.
