Avalanche Wins a Thriller

Adam Deadmarsh’s rebound goal 34 seconds into overtime gave the Colorado Avalanche a 3-2 victory over the Stars on Monday night at Dallas.

Rookie Martin Skoula, who scored a first-period goal, took the first shot, which was stopped by goalie Ed Belfour. But Deadmarsh put in the rebound for his sixth goal of the season.

Rookie Brenden Morrow scored his first NHL goal in the second period to give the Stars a 2-1 lead.

Jason Allison scored early in the third period as the Boston Bruins ended the Carolina’s Hurricanes’ home win streak at three with a 2-1 victory at Raleigh, N.C. Boston’s other goal came from Dave Andreychuk, who has 14 this season. . . . Dean Sylvester, playing in his third game, scored the first three goals of his career and had an assist as the Thrashers beat the Vancouver Canucks, 6-3, at Atlanta. . . . Zac Bierk stopped 30 shots in his first game of the season and Vincent Lecavalier ended a six-game point drought with a third period power-play goal to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. Simon Gagne scored a third-period power-play goal for the Flyers, who lost for only the second time in 11 games. . . . Mike Eastwood’s second goal of the game, with 2:21 remaining in overtime, gave the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 victory over the visiting Nashville Predators. Roman Turek, who started the season with three consecutive losses, extended his unbeaten streak to six games and faced only 10 shots.
