Pepperdine Women Surprise UCLA

Jamie Hill had 19 kills to help Pepperdine upset UCLA, 8-15, 7-15, 15-7, 15-7, 15-12 in a nonconference women’s volleyball game on Tuesday night at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Melissa Plass had 11 kills and 50 assists for the 10th-ranked Waves (24-3).

Kristee Porter led No. 6 UCLA (25-3) with 25 kills and 11 digs while teammate Erika Selsor finished with 53 assists and 12 digs.

Moorpark def. Palomar, 15-10, 15-10, 15-11--Carina Nusinov hit .333 with 15 kills and four errors in 33 attempts, and the Raiders won a Southern California Regional first-round game at Moorpark.

Nusinov had 10 digs and four blocks, and Toni-Ann Merendino had nine kills and 12 digs for the Raiders (12-9).

Palomar finished 16-3.

Canyons def. Grossmont, 15-10, 8-15, 15-11, 13-15, 15-9--Jamie Foster had 20 kills and 14 digs, and Wendy Cook added 50 assists for the Cougars in a first round Southern California regional playoff victory at Canyons.

“Foster was just phenomenal and was all around the court,” said Coach Lisa Mosier of Canyons.

The No. 6-seed Cougars (17-4) play at No. 4-seeded Santa Barbara on Saturday.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Central Valley Christian def. Thousand Oaks Hillcrest Christian, 15-7, 15-10, 15-9--Jenna Meyers had 20 kills, nine blocks and 15 digs for the Saints in a first round regional playoff loss at Visalia.

“I don’t feel bad about losing because my team gave it all they had,” said Karen Meyers, Hillcrest Christian assistant.

The No. 8-seeded Saints finished 23-3.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 66, Cal Lutheran 50--Haley Jones had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Regals in a nonconference game at Cal Lutheran.

Christina Mosesso had 11 points and five rebounds for the Regals (2-2).

Jill Hodges had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Mustangs.

Pierce 67, San Jacinto 58--Sophomore guard Irene Rodriguez had 20 points and six steals, and freshman center Cathleen Reuter had 19 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Brahmas (1-4) in a nonconference game at Pierce.

Rodriguez scored 15 points in the second half for the Brahmas, who outrebounded the Eagles (1-2), 36-23.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Long Beach 75, Antelope Valley 62--Sophomore guard Nick O’Neil had 24 points and seven rebounds for the Marauders in a nonconference game at Antelope Valley.

Sophomore forward Jeronne Saxton added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Marauders (0-4).

Freshman guard Patrick Robinson scored 25 points for the Vikings (3-3).
