2 Defectors From Grand Old Party

* So George Argyros, wealthy Newport Beach developer and El Toro airport money man, is to lead the state GOP’s fund-raising efforts (Nov. 4).

I see that Argyros is ensuring as many people as possible will be indebted to him, including presidential hopeful George W. Bush.

I recently sent money to a Republican candidate. I want it back! With Argyros leading GOP efforts to raise money, you can count me out on any further campaign contributions or any support of any kind.

I may do something that I have never done in my 25 years of voting: vote for a Democrat!

* The Republican Party is making a big mistake by recruiting George Argyros as their leading fund-raiser. Everybody knows that Argyros is pro-airport at El Toro and has spent millions of dollars of his own money to support the airport.

One of the strongest districts for the GOP is the 48th, Rep. Ron Packard’s district, which is in South County. The majority of this district is anti-airport.

Not only is this action going to free up some of Argyros’ own money to continue promoting the pro-airport movement, but it also sends a clear message that the Republican Party doesn’t give a hoot about its strongest base.

I, for one, am not going to support a party that is interested in the destruction of South County and am changing my registration immediately. BOB IPEMA
