2 Teens Semifinalists for Scholarships
Two Ventura County teens are semifinalists in an academic competition for African American high school students.
Jessica Baker of Moorpark High School and Allegra Towns of Thacher School in Ojai will compete in the 36th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Both students will be eligible to win a $2,000 scholarship next spring. They will compete with 1,500 students from throughout the nation. Of those, 1,200 will become finalists and 700 will receive scholarship awards, based on grades, recommendations and SAT scores.
Since 1965, more than 21,000 black students have won scholarships totaling $67 million.
