Poly Rides Off in Sunset Six With Victory

Youssra Marjoua had 30 kills and Poly High defeated North Hollywood, 11-15, 15-11, 15-6, 4-15, 15-13 in a Sunset Six League girls’ volleyball match Wednesday at Poly.
Marjoua, a senior middle blocker, added 14 digs and eight blocks for Poly (5-1, 3-0 in league play).
“[Marjoua] stepped it up a notch and we just went to her in the end,” Coach Jimmy Ikeda of Poly said.
Oxnard def. Channel Islands, 15-2, 15-1, 15-3--Sarah Morrison had 14 kills in 16 attempts and finished with a .750 hitting percentage in a Pacific View League victory at Channel Islands.
Jennifer Otani added 16 aces for Oxnard (7-3, 5-0), ranked No. 6 in the region by The Times.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Harvard-Westlake 27, Alemany 2--Eric Townsend had six goals and Joe Axelrad made 15 saves for the Wolverines in a Mission League opener at Harvard-Westlake.
The Wolverines (9-2) are ranked sixth in the Southern Section Division I coaches poll.
La Canada 10, Villa Park 6--Cyrus Jamnejad had four goals and Lloyd Masson made 13 saves for the Spartans in a nonleague victory at Villa Park.
La Canada (10-3), which had 22 steals, is ranked first in the Division III poll.
Jared Jones had 10 saves and Mike Casagrande scored three goals for Villa Park (9-4), which is ranked seventh in the Southern Section Division I coaches poll.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 3, Redlands 1--Betsy Fisch and Cathy Turpin scored 21 seconds apart in the second half at Cal Lutheran to give the Regals their 100th Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory in 8 1/2 years in the conference.
Turpin scored in the 29th minute to tie the game, 1-1.
The Regals (8-3, 6-0) have a 46-game SCIAC winning streak and a 55-game SCIAC unbeaten streak.
Redlands is 5-6, 4-2.
BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Notre Dame 15, Chaminade 45--John Smithson, Matt Venti and Ted Riedell of Notre Dame tied for first at 15:23 over 2.8 miles at Pierce College.
