Storr Cleared to Return

Share

Jamie Storr breathed a sigh of relief Monday after he was put through a 20-minute workout by goalie consultant Don Edwards and pronounced well enough to play.

Storr, who suffered a groin strain and left after one period Thursday at Tampa, Fla., has been concerned about his recovery because of his history of groin problems.

“I’ve been worried about it the last couple of days,” he said.

After working out with Edwards, Storr went through the entire practice, facing shots in drills effectively, and said he would be ready to play if called upon this weekend.

The Kings have games on successive nights, Friday in Calgary and Saturday at Edmonton, and although Stephane Fiset has been hot with a 3-1-1 record and 1.48 goals-against average, the coaches would like to have Storr as an alternative in the back-to-back games.

Marcel Cousineau joined the Kings in Washington to serve as Fiset’s backup Saturday night, but returned to the Ice Dogs and played in their game Sunday night.

Though the proximity of Long Beach makes his recall a fairly easy process, the Kings would much prefer to have Storr ready.

Sign of an upbeat team: About three-quarters of the Kings stayed on the ice after practice Monday, working on individual skills.

The Kings will conduct their first practice in their new home tonight when they entertain their season-ticket holders at the Staples Center at 6:30.

There will be a regular practice for about 45 minutes, then a break and some skills drills in a competitive format.
