LAGUNA BEACH

Swimmers and surfers should avoid a section of Laguna Beach, from Legion Street to Oak Street, which has been closed after 1,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled out of a cracked sewage line Tuesday morning.
Monica Mazur, an Orange County Health Protection specialist, said 300 to 400 gallons of the sewage was immediately retrieved and put back into the sewer system. What remains in the water contains high levels of bacteria, she said.
The beach will remain closed until test results show two consecutive days of lower bacteria levels.
