The El Dorado Golden Hawks Marching Band is $1,200 closer to Australia with a fund-raising boost from the City Council.
The council voted unanimously Tuesday to donate that amount to the marching band for its trip to the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, where the band is scheduled to perform in the opening ceremonies.
The council also voted to have Southern California Gas Co. refund $6,000 in utility users taxes to 50,000 local customers, which will mean a possible rebate of pennies for most customers. The company will refund more than $100 million to all of its customers because of a collection error.
