Scott’s Five Touchdowns Keep Alemany in Running
Tailback De’Andre Scott rushed for 353 yards and five touchdowns in 31 carries to lead Alemany High over Santa Margarita, 42-28, in a nonleague game Friday night at Alemany.
Alemany (6-1) scored on the first play from scrimmage when Scott, a junior, ran off right tackle for 63 yards.
Scott also scored on runs of 29, 55, 50 and one yard. His 50-yard scoring run capped a 95-yard drive on the Indians’ first possession of the second half, giving Alemany a 35-14 lead.
With key defensive players injured, the Indians scrapped their passing offense in favor of a ball-control attack featuring fullback Gabriel Vega as a blocking back. Alemany finished with 404 yards rushing.
“We threw a wrinkle in our offense to overcome some key injuries on defense,” Coach Jim Bonds of Alemany said.
Santa Margarita (5-2) pulled within 35-28 late in the third quarter on 13-yard touchdown run by Tyler Thompson, following an onside kick recovery.
Alemany scored early in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run by Scott, capping a 63-yard drive.
Indian quarterback Casey Clausen completed seven of 11 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown. His 25-yard scoring pass to Derek Goodman gave Alemany a 28-14 lead with 13 seconds left in the second quarter.
Santa Margarita quarterback Chris Rix completed 12 of 25 passes for 152 yards, and he caught a 64-yard touchdown pass on a halfback option from Donald Wilson.
