Santa Ana Valley Hits Overdrive Against Orange

Santa Ana Valley High scored on its first five possessions of the game and cruised to a 34-14 victory over Orange in a Century League game Friday night at Santa Ana Stadium.

The Falcons collected 330 yards in offense, paced by 172 passing yards by Miguel Guerrero and 133 yards and two touchdowns rushing by Israel Zepeda.

Orange, which has allowed more points to opponents this season than any other Orange County school, struggled on both sides of the ball for the first three quarters before avoiding its second consecutive shutout with a pair of late touchdowns.

Hugo Ibarra got Santa Ana Valley on the board with a field goal. On the Falcons’ next possession, they drove 81 yards in 10 plays with Zepeda scoring from a yard out with 1:08 left in the first quarter.

When Orange’s Brett Thompson was unable to cover a short kick, Maurice Dunning recovered for Santa Ana Valley (6-1, 2-0). On the next play, Guerrero found David Guevara open for a 22-yard touchdown pass.

The Falcons added touchdown runs by Zepeda and Aaron Barragan in the second quarter to mount a 31-0 halftime lead.

Orange (0-7, 0-2) scored when C. J. Joiner hit Dan Rosalski with a four-yard touchdown pass. Jeremy Poole ran for 79 of his 99 rushing yards for the Panthers’ final touchdown with 1:44 remaining.
