Anschutz Turns Down Overtures to Sell Team

Philip Anschutz, the principal owner of the Kings, has been approached by suitors asking to buy all or part of the club but has turned them down, according to Staples Center President Tim Leiweke.

“He’s really happy. He loves the building and he likes the team,” said Leiweke, who had indicated Anschutz was unhappy over the rising salaries of NHL players in general and his own players in particular. “Right now everything is good for us, so we do not foresee a time any time in the near future that we’d want to get out.”

Leiweke would not identify who had approached Anschutz, saying only they were “people in the market interested in owning some or all of the team.”

The Kings put rookie winger Marko Tuomainen on injured reserve Thursday because of damage to his left eye, suffered a week ago when he was hit by a puck that caromed off the boards at Staples Center. The Kings do not plan to call anyone up from the minor leagues to replace Tuomainen.
