Matt Cassel, Chatsworth High’s senior quarterback, picked up where he left off last season, pacing the Chancellors over Reseda, 61-28, in an opener on Thursday night at Chatsworth.

Cassel, who passed for 2,890 yards last season and has committed to USC, completed 15 of 21 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns. The Chancellors rolled up 508 yards.

Cassel’s favorite target was senior Lucius Duper, who caught eight passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.

Cassel ran for 70 yards and a touchdown in eight carries.

The Chancellors, who last season defeated Reseda, 34-7, for the City Division title, held a 27-20 lead at halftime. But Chatsworth scored on a 56-yard pass play from Cassel to Duper and a one-yard run by Rafael Cansino in the first three minutes of the third quarter to break open the game.

Reseda had 507 yards, but lost three fumbles in the second half.

The Regents were led by Eddie Robinson, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown in 13 carries, and caught four passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

Reseda’s Jason Wagner finished with 102 yards and a touchdown in 14 carries and had four receptions for 61 yards.
