Saugus High, behind a strong defense and David Parker’s five touchdowns, routed Royal 40-14 on Friday night in a nonleague game at Royal.
Parker, who threw for four touchdowns and rushed for another, completed 18 of 34 passes for 222 yards and no interceptions. He gained 59 yards in 16 carries.
Saugus held Royal to three first downs and outgained the Highlanders, 408-93.
Royal led, 7-0, but the Centurions blew it open with a 19-point second quarter.
Eddie Garcia blocked a Saugus punt, and one play later Doug Hartman scored on a 15-yard run for Royal.
Then Parker and the Centurions went to work. He threw two touchdowns, of 14 and four yards, to 6-foot-6 tight end Nels Jensen. Later in the quarter, he connected on a 29-yard touchdown with Nathan Steele.
Jensen had six receptions for 60 yards and Steele had three for 54 yards.
Saugus’ Marco Gilbert caught five passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Bryce Klenck completed the Highlanders’ scoring on an eight-yard scramble early in the third quarter.
Brett Draimin of Saugus rushed for a game-high 81 yards in 19 carries. Teammate Charlie Kasmar had 44 yards in five carries.
