The Museum Boom

I recently experienced the “blockbuster exhibition” of Van Gogh at LACMA (“Your Ticket to Eternity” (by Christopher Knight, Sept. 5).

I was led into a gallery that was so full it was impossible to turn without feeling the hot frenzied breath of others. Once I got to a painting to view I had to maneuver around the stone sentinels with headphones and the ankle-biting baby carriages. From there I was prodded along to the inescapable gift store/slaughterhouse.

I went into the show for enlightenment and came out understanding the truths of “mass entertainment.”
