Wide receiver Carl Pickens signed a five-year contract extension with the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday, two days after he dropped his vow never to play for the team again.

The deal would pay Pickens $23.25 million, making him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.

Pickens and the Bengals were at an impasse since the end of last season. The Bengals designated Pickens as their franchise player, but he held out and demanded a trade.

Cincinnati added Pickens to its roster. It was unclear whether he will play against the Tennessee Titans today.

Jeff Jaeger, one of six kickers to connect on at least 80% of his field-goal attempts the past three years, was released by the Chicago Bears after missing nearly all of training camp because of a hip injury.

The Bears signed Brian Gowins off their practice squad. He will play in today’s season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
