Falcons’ Chris Chandler Doubtful for Cowboys

Quarterback Chris Chandler, who suffered a severely sprained right hamstring in the Atlanta Falcons’ season-opening loss to Minnesota Sunday, was listed as doubtful for next Monday night’s game against Dallas.

Chandler won’t try to practice until Thursday at the earliest.

Chandler injured the same hamstring during a preseason practice and was sidelined one exhibition game.

Detroit Lion wide receiver Herman Moore could miss at least four weeks after injuring his knee in the victory at Seattle. . . . Defensive tackle Luther Elliss has signed a six-year contract extension with the Lions. . . . New Orleans Coach Mike Ditka wasn’t sure if running back Ricky Williams, who suffered another ankle injury in the victory over Carolina, would be ready to play next Sunday at San Francisco. Williams will practice Wednesday. . . . After getting sacked seven times and knocked down on 10 other occasions against New Orleans, Carolina quarterback Steve Beuerlein found out he has torn cartilage in his left knee. But Beuerlein said tests showed the cartilage was not completely torn off. Beuerlein said doctors were unsure whether he could aggravate the injury by continuing to play. . . . The Chicago Bears re-signed veteran kicker Jeff Jaeger, only two days after they released him. Jaeger missed nearly all of training camp because of a hip injury. Rookie Brian Gowins, already cut once by the Bears this season, was waived again, although he could be re-signed to the practice squad when he clears waivers. Gowins kicked field goals of 21 and 24 yards in the Bears’ victory over Kansas City Sunday. . . . . . . Philadelphia Eagles rookie offensive tackle John Welbourn will be sidelined this season after having surgery on his left knee.
