Willamette’s Ground Game Is Too Much for Chapman

Share

Willamette rushed for 418 yards and five touchdowns Saturday as it rolled past visiting Chapman, 42-13, in a nonconference game in front of 1,500 at McCulloch Stadium in Salem, Ore.

The Panthers fell behind, 14-0, in the first quarter, scoring on a 17-yard interception return by defensive end Aaron Lawson, a former Sonora High standout, and a six-yard run by Nick Shein.

Chapman (1-1) got within 14-7 after Brian Johnson blocked a punt, setting up Phillip Cruz’s one-yard scoring run with 1:17 left in the first quarter. But that was as close as the Panthers would come.
