About 26 people gathered at a laboratory Sunday to protest the use of animals for scientific experimentation, police said.

The protest also was conducted to support a recent raid of the lab by the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), said Ava Park, founder of Orange County People for Animals. On Aug. 29, members of ALF broke into the laboratory at Collins Avenue and Eckhoff Street and released more than 40 dogs.

According to ALF spokesman David Barbaresh, the dogs were examined by a veterinarian and placed in homes.

The break-in is being investigated by the FBI, according to Orange Police Lt. Art Romo.
