All-Star Guard Beckler Close to Choosing Rice

Kate Beckler of Alemany High, a two-time All-Valley girls’ basketball selection by The Times, said she will probably commit to Rice when she takes a recruiting trip to the Houston school this weekend.

As a junior, Beckler was second in the region in scoring with a 24-point average and helped lead Alemany to the state Division III final as a sophomore.

The 5-foot-8 guard also has been recruited by San Francisco, Loyola Marymount, Gonzaga, Lehigh and Pennsylvania.
