The Los Angeles Times Food section has been named one of the best sections in the country by the Assn. of Food Journalists. The group of writers and editors awarded The Times third place in the 300,000-and-over circulation category at its annual meeting last week in Orlando, Fla. Judges said the section “was distinguished by strong and lively writing, fine photos and striking headlines.”

Times restaurant critic S. Irene Virbila received a second-place award in the series and special sections category, and Times food columnist Rose Dosti won third place in food feature writing. The Chicago Tribune and the Portland Oregonian food sections won first and second place, respectively, in the best section category.
