SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A shopping expedition at Danny’s Warehouse in Culver City is not for the neophyte bargain-hunter or for the shopping princess. Digging through boxes at a messy warehouse may not be the most convenient way to shop, but the savings make it worthwhile.

All the merchandise is dance apparel, and you almost have to be a dancer to navigate the aisles.

The top price at Danny’s Warehouse is $10. This could be for a $35 Oksana leotard, white lace skating leotards that retail for $45, a heavy ballroom dance skirt that usually sells for $100 or Baryshnikov point shoes. The Capezio name abounds, whether it’s shoes, pants or leotards.

The $10 limit even applies to the shoes, many of which would retail for between $40 and $60 and frequently are the most expensive item dancers must buy. Bloch and Soloist are some of the name brands. There are also hot dance sneakers by Capezio.

Tights are even cheaper at $3, including a Parisian label, Repetto, as well as the more popular labels. The price is the same whether they’re packaged, irregulars or first-quality. T-shirts from Grishko, a Russian firm, are $5. Sizes go from toddler to adult extra-large, but not all sizes and styles are available.

A dancer on a budget might purchase five pairs of tights, three leotards and two pairs of dancing shoes for $65. Now that’s a bargain.
