Two 20-year-old Northridge men died Saturday night in an automobile crash on Highway 118 in Simi Valley.

Travis Mitchell and Zeev Cohen were killed about 9 p.m. while racing a friend in another car eastbound on the Ronald Reagan Freeway at speeds exceeding 65 mph, CPH officials said.

Mitchell, who was driving, drifted toward the median, swerved and lost control of the vehicle, officials said.

Lifelong friends who grew up in Simi Valley, the men had recently moved to an apartment in Northridge, said James Baroni, Ventura County senior deputy coroner.

Cohen attended Cal State Northridge, and Mitchell worked at an electronics company, according to officials.

“They had just come from a barbecue in Moorpark,” Baroni said. “They were goofing around and racing.”

The car careened off the freeway and struck trees and bushes near 1st Street in Simi Valley.

Both men were killed instantly. No arrests were made.
