City Council candidates Carl Morehouse, Doug Halter and Mayor Jim Friedman received endorsements from city police and fire unions Monday.

Ken Corney, president of the Ventura Police Officers Assn., announced that his group, along with the Ventura City Firefighters Assn. and Police Management Assn., will back the three candidates in the Nov. 2 election.

The groups chose candidates “we felt not only had a demonstrated ability to lead the city, but people who would . . . ensure our city has a fully staffed, well-trained and adequately salaried public safety, police and fire departments,’ Corney said.
