Pedestrian Crossing in the Works

Share
TIMES STAFF WRITER

Dear Traffic Talk:

I work at 21800 Oxnard St., several hundred feet east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard and across from The Promenade at Woodland Hills mall. Hundreds of workers and I cross the street daily to go to the mall. There is no crosswalk, and motorists are often driving quite fast, making it a perilous crossing.

Are there any plans to put in a crosswalk or partial traffic light to protect pedestrians?

Petra Alexander

Sherman Oaks

Dear Petra:

As part of construction improvements at the mall, developers will install a traffic signal and a marked crosswalk, said Ken Firoozmand, West Valley District engineer at the city Department of Transportation. The city-approved signal and crosswalk will be built soon between the driveways of the mall and the nearby Warner Center Marriott, he said.

Dear Traffic Talk:

Devonshire Boulevard in the West Valley was striped for a bike lane several months ago.

It seems that the city failed to inspect the work because the striping was not completed between Corbin and Winnetka avenues. When will this work be completed?

Dear Leo:

The bike path work has been put on hold while a storm drain project on Oakdale Avenue is completed, said Firoozmand at the city Department of Transportation. The bike lane should be finished in the next few months, he said.

Dear Traffic Talk:

I have lived on Albers Street, between Hazeltine and Woodman Avenues in Sherman Oaks, for eight years.

Our street is uneven and has numerous potholes. I have heard from neighbors who have lived on this street for 20-plus years that there has never been anything more than numerous minor street repairs.

Can you tell me if there are any plans to repave this street? If not, how can we get scheduled?

David Schwartz

Sherman Oaks

Dear David:

Although Albers qualifies for resurfacing, it is not listed in any program for repairs, said Cora Jackson-Fossett, a spokeswoman at the city Department of Public Works.

Jackson-Fossett suggested you call your City Council representative, Mike Feuer, at (818) 756-8083, or the city Bureau of Street Services at (818) 756-8815.
