State officials announced Thursday that Santa Ana has been awarded a $150,000 grant to expand its pedestrian safety program.

Most of the funding will go toward art programs designed to increase awareness, according to Chris Murphy, assistant director of operations of the state Office of Traffic Safety.

Under one program, students will create murals and other pedestrian safety-related artworks that will be displayed throughout the city.

The grant also will fund educational outreach programs and additional signage, Murphy said.
