The search committee for the Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball coaching job met Monday, then made its report to the administration.

Utah assistant coach Donny Daniels, a former player and assistant coach for the Titans, said Monday night he had been invited to return for a second round of meetings with university officials today.

“I feel it’s positive to be invited back,” said Daniels, who has been regarded as the top candidate.

Daniels was interviewed by committee members on campus Saturday, and said he met separately with university President Milton Gordon.

Daniels, who has been an assistant under Rick Majerus at Utah for 11 years, was among four candidates interviewed last week.

Also interviewed were Gary Stewart, an assistant at Washington State; Larry Reynolds, coach at Cal State San Bernardino, and Thomas Trotter, an assistant at New Mexico State.

There was no immediate indication if other candidates would return for meetings this week, or how soon a coach would be named.
