Daniels Continues Meeting With Titan Officials

Donny Daniels appeared Tuesday to move a step closer to becoming Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball coach.

Daniels, an assistant on Rick Majerus’ staff at Utah for 11 years, met Tuesday with Athletic Director John Easterbrook and other university officials.

Daniels, a former Titan player and assistant coach, is the only candidate who has been asked to return for additional meetings “at this time,” athletic department spokesman Mel Franks said.

Daniels said Tuesday night that he has not been offered the job.

“I think things are moving in a positive direction, and I’ve enjoyed meeting with people at Fullerton, including some I knew before when I was at Fullerton,” Daniels said.

Daniels has been regarded as the top candidate since Bob Hawking announced his resignation on Feb. 24 effective at the end of last season.

Daniels is scheduled to take part in several meetings on campus today.

Plans are for him to appear at an open meeting for faculty, staff and students interested in talking with him at 10 o’clock this morning at the Gabrielino Room in the Titan Student Union.

The other candidates interviewed last week are Washington State assistant coach Gary Stewart, New Mexico State assistant Thomas Trotter and Cal State San Bernardino Coach Larry Reynolds.
