Lancaster Splits With San Jose

Brandon Parker entered with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth and got two fly-ball outs to preserve Lancaster’s 5-1 victory over the San Jose Giants in the second game of a California League doubleheader Wednesday at Lancaster.

Willie Bloomquist had three hits, but the Jethawks were defeated by the Giants, 6-2, in the first game.

Terrmel Sledge, who played at Kennedy High and Cal State Northridge, had a double for Lancaster (10-4).

Lancaster led, 5-0, after five innings in the second game. Jesus Matos (2-0) scattered four hits and struck out five in five shutout innings.

Jeff Heaverlo (3-0) leads the California League with 24 strikeouts and Enmanuel Ulloa (1-0) is second with 18 through games Tuesday. Ulloa was scheduled to get his third start Wednesday night.

Craig Kuzmic and Bo Robinson have ridden hot streaks the last week to climb into the league’s top 10 in batting average. Kuzmic is batting .359 and Robinson is at .351. Both trail JetHawks’ leader Harvey Hargrove’s .361 average.
