Valentin Hits for Cycle as White Sox Roll, 13-4
Jose Valentin hit a three-run triple, drove in five runs and hit for the cycle Thursday as the Chicago White Sox routed the Baltimore Orioles, 13-4.
Valentin singled in the first inning, doubled in the second, tripled in the third and hit a solo homer in the seventh to complete the cycle. His five runs batted in tied his career high.
Valentin, acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in the off-season in the Jaime Navarro trade, is only the fifth White Sox player to hit for the cycle. Teammate Chris Singleton did it last July 6 against Kansas City.
Although Valentin put up the biggest numbers, nearly all of the White Sox picked on the Orioles. Chicago batted around twice, chased two pitchers and scored 10 runs in the first three innings.
