Transit Needs

Re “Transit Needs: Unmet,” Ventura County editorial, Feb. 20.

I am a 20-year-old student at Moorpark College. After reading this editorial, I began to feel that Ventura County residents are being robbed. I feel there is no need for expansion of the public transit system in this county. Money spent on transit is being wasted on a frivolous cause.

I acknowledge the noble attempt to reduce pollution and traffic. However, I believe that more buses, longer hours of operation and rain shelters are not going to do the trick. It is unrealistic to expect members of this community to give up the freedom that their own cars offer them.

As much as I would like to see people use public transit it is simply not going to happen. Due to this, I feel that money designated to this cause should be reallocated to other needs, such as promotion of car-pooling and electric cars. This is a more practical allocation of resources that would accomplish more.
