Lancaster’s Streak Hits Seven, 4-3

Terrmel Sledge’s solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Lancaster a 4-3 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze on Tuesday night in a California League game at Lancaster.

The JetHawks have won seven consecutive games.

Lancaster (34-12) parlayed one hit and two errors into two runs to tie it, 3-3, in the ninth. Bakersfield fell to 26-21.

Brandon Parker (3-2) pitched two innings of one-hit relief and struck out two.

Melqui Torres (5-4) gave up one hit and struck out seven in seven innings to help the JetHawks complete a three-game sweep of the San Jose Giants with an 8-1 victory Monday night at The Hangar in Lancaster.

Juan Silvestrehad three hits and drove in two runs, and Sledge and Scott Maynardeach had two hits and two runs batted in for Lancaster, which scored five runs in the second inning.

Silvestre has driven in 120 runs this season before Tuesday’s game, most in professional baseball. Three major leaguers have eclipsed the 100-RBI mark--Edgar Martinez of Seattle (103), Bernie Williams of the New York Yankees (100) and Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs (100). The other minor leaguers in triple digits are Alex Cabrera of Midland (107) and Sean McGowan of San Jose (103).
