A 51-year-old man died after being shot by his stepdaughter’s boyfriend during an apparent dispute over custody of the suspect’s 3-year-old son, detectives said Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies said an arrest warrant had been issued for Monterey Park gang member Nicholas “Killer” Rodriguez, 24, wanted in the killing of his girlfriend’s stepfather, Raymond Chavez, Tuesday evening at Chavez’s home in the 500 block of Williamson Avenue.

Rodriguez and Chavez’s stepdaughter, whose name was not released, are the parents of the 3-year-old, deputies said.

Rodriguez forced his way into the Chavez home about 6 p.m. Tuesday and argued with Chavez over custody of the boy, investigators said. At some point, Rodriguez shot Chavez at least twice in the upper torso, officers said.

Rodriguez was described as 6-foot-1, 250 to 270 pounds and with a shaved head, Deputy Cruz Solis said.
