Couple Shot After Driver Is Confronted in Parking Lot

A suspected drunk driver shot and wounded a husband and wife Wednesday night in a convenience store parking lot after they confronted him about his reckless driving, police said.

The couple, both in their mid-40s, were shopping at a 7-Eleven in the 2600 block of Carson Street at about 9:30 p.m., said Sgt. Gabe Ramirez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. As they walked to their car, they saw a man driving recklessly in the parking lot, Ramirez said.

The couple suspected the man was drunk and the husband approached the passenger side of the car and talked to a woman, possibly the suspect’s mother, Ramirez said. As he talked to the woman, the driver got out of the car and fired three rounds toward the couple, Ramirez said.

The husband was hit in the stomach and left hand and his wife was hit in the lower abdomen, Ramirez said. Both victims were listed in stable condition at a local hospital Thursday morning, Ramirez said.

The suspect, described as between 18 and 23 years old with shoulder-length black hair, fled in a 1982 to 1987 blue Ford Thunderbird, Ramirez said.
