Sowing the Seeds for NBA Farm System

If I have to read one more article about “corruption and summer basketball” (Sunday, August 6), I am going to be sick! If this stuff is so bad, do what is right for all concerned.

Start a minor league system for the NBA and allow those athletes the choice to start earning a living just as their brethren in the major league baseball system.

You won’t have to worry about the likes of the Pumps, Adidas/Vaccaro, Nike/Raveling or Pat Barrett. These are the same people we hear about all the time.

Here’s why it doesn’t happen: If you have a minor league system, the NCAA loses the big TV contract, the coaches lose their big fat paydays (supplied in part from the shoe companies), and the shoe companies lose walking billboards and national exposure with its logo on college players.

A minor league system is the solution, but these hypocrites would rather belly up to the trough and continue to make billions off the sweat of young men while trying to claim they are guarding against those who would corrupt their system.
