Two Irvine Unified School District trustees have decided not to seek reelection.

Trustee Michael B. Regele had decided months ago not to run, and board President Jeanne Flint announced Friday she would not seek a second term after discussing the matter with her family.

Regele, a trustee for about 11 years, said he thought it was time for the board to have new faces.

Karen Preston, the third board member up for reelection, will seek a second term in the Nov. 7 election.

Other residents who will compete for seats on the school board include insurance specialist Sandy Hayman; Sal Morreale, a stockbroker, Carolyn McInerney, president of the Irvine Public Schools Foundation; and Sue Kuwabara, a PTA volunteer at Northwood High School.

Because Flint and Regele aren’t running, the filing deadline has been extended until Wednesday.
