Western Fires Engulf 1 Million Acres

Wildfires burning across 12 Western states in mostly rugged, steep terrain extended their reach and now engulf nearly 1 million acres. “Montana has problems, Idaho has problems. Our fear is that those big fires are going to burn together,” E. Lynn Burkett of the National Interagency Fire Center said. Idaho had 22 large fires burning 293,169 acres, while Montana reported 25 blazes engulfing 384,461 acres. In all, there are 85 large fires burning 964,721 acres.
